| The first
Fernwood Women's Health Club was established in 1989 when Di Williams recognised
a need for today's women to have their own special space to enjoy regular exercise
and reach their health and fitness goals. Women flocked to the club because Fernwood
offered what they want: a fun and friendly atmosphere in a supportive environment
where they could exercise, slim down, and learn about good nutrition and weight
management and have fun together taking time out for themselves. The special
touches that women appreciate, luxurious facilities, attention to detail and the
ultimate in cleanliness and quality together with affordable prices has given
rise to the enormous popularity of the concept inspired the decision to franchise
in 1994. Regularly winning awards and listed in business journals as
one of the fastest growing and leading Franchise systems Fernwood has grown to
be largest health and fitness organization in Australia, with 65+ clubs, over
80,000 members, more than 1500 employees and an annual turnover of $72 million.
