| KX
gym has hit on the 'X' factor
with its smart new Sydney work
out space. |
| The
first thing to go through your
mind when you enter KXfit Health Club
is, quite simply, ‘wow’. This
smart new Kings Cross Mecca
is certainly a far cry from
the stereotypical perception
one might conceive of a gym
in Darlinghurst Road, with its
reputation for urban edginess.
It is, in every sense of the
word, a true diamond in the
rough. |
| The
first thing you notice at KX
is, without a doubt, its impressive
main floor, with its five metre
high Art Deco ceilings and huge
bay windows overlooking Darlinghurst
Road, both of which allow natural
light to flood the space. Add
to this a sweeping metal staircase,
which accesses the cardio area
on the mezzanine level, and
you have a truly inspirational
training environment.
|
| The
team at KXfit Health Club has only
been together for a short time,
yet already created an atmosphere
that would be the envy of many
health clubs around Australia.
Results, not promises, is the
mission statement here, and
after training on the hammer
strength equipment, getting
to know the staff and talking
with members you soon become
aware that it is more than just
a company motto.
|
| KXfit Health Club is the concept of two
directors, Daniel Di Domenico
and Larry Damiani, and they’re
very selective about the type
of staff they employ. As such,
you won’t find any oversized
egos on the floor. Instead,
the KX team is made up of a
group of fitness lovers who
work together to eventually
transform you into one as well.
The key is a specialised training
system designed and monitored
by KX’s very own exercise encyclopaedia
(aka Daniel Healey), which ensures
you achieve the results you
want. The gym also features
a unique, easy to navigate,
computer-based self-help program
that ties in with Daniel’s own,
which you can access at your
leisure time. |
| But
the best thing to do to ensure
a complete workout at KX is
to take advantage of the specialised
classes that are designed to
work in synergy with your normal
training sessions. Directed
by Janie Larmour, these are
tailor made to steer the gym
(and its followers) away from
outdated, Eighties-style aerobic
classes and into more modern,
well-rounded exercise involving
the latest in Pilates, Ki Yoga
and Fitbox techniques.
|
|
And if
you find, as a member, that
you can’t keep up, mentally or literally, with the rest of the class, KX makes it easy by providing
a newsletter that details
everything you needed to know
about health and fitness,
but were too afraid to ask.
Combine this with a great
social feel and a fully equipped
SportsCafé and you can’t help
but be drawn to this space.
In fact, all you need to do
is decide which juice boost
to order after your workout!
And even SportsCafé
manager Charles Austin
takes the pain out of that
by matching the drinks and
sports bars with the pre and
post training nutrition required
– all to help facilitate your
progress.

and tonic, indeed. |

In order
to succeed, you need to be
top of your game, both physically
and mentally, and keeping
fit achieves both of these
goals. I always work out at
the end of the day; it’s a
great opportunity to process
everything that has occurred
at work. You can solve most
problems on the treadmill!
I had checked
out the other gym options
in the area, and although
they had great facilities
I didn’t think I’d be as comfortable
there. I go to the gym to
work out, not to be judged
by gym staff or other members.
KXfit Health Club is attitude free,
with friendly staff and a
diverse mix of members. It
doesn’t feel like a nightclub
when you walk in!

As a child
I played many team sports,
so becoming a member of a
gym was a natural progression.
I have been training on and
off at gyms since I was 14.
However, this time around
I am taking it a lot more
seriously, as I have sadly
realised the older you get,
the more work you need to
keep your figure the way it
was! What motivates me to
keep training is when friends
notice the results. The return
of the mini skirt is another
good reason to do an extra
half hour on the treadmill!
I heard
that a new gym was opening
up in the area, so I looked
up the website (www.kxfitness.com.au)
and really liked the look
of it – the new equipment,
the warehouse design and the
people. It just has a great
feel to it. And, as part of
your membership, KX offers
an ongoing one-on-one program
that staff update and assess
on a four to six week basis.
I also attend a couple of
yoga classes each week, which
are small in number, so you
receive more personalised
attention.

I’ve been
training at gyms for about
four years, but have only
recently taken up weight training
seriously. I’m motivated by
the desire to improve my overall
fitness and health, as well
as perhaps gain some weight
– although preferably muscle! The guys here are all really supportive,
and even remember your name
and what program you’re on.
I initially visited because
I was offered a week’s free
trial, but now I’ll stay a
member. Everything I need
is here, including a great
boxing class. And Charles
makes an awesome protein shake!

I have
been training nearly all my
life, as I am a tennis professional
but FX Fitness is the first
gym I’ve actually joined.
I am associated with other
gyms but they have never appealed
to me. I train because I want
to ensure longevity in my
career. This space is close
to home, the club is aesthetically
pleasing, it doesn’t feel
like a sweatbox and because
of the staff, especially Charles
with his welcoming smile at
the SportsCafé, I’ll continue
to be a member.

I have
been going to gyms on and
off for the past 30 years.
It seems the older I get the
younger I want to look! And
the gym is a great way to
slow the ageing process, which
makes me feel great. I normally
walk to and from work, which
is 20 minutes each way, then
do a session at KX three times
a week. I initially joined
for two reasons; one – I knew
one of the owners, and two
– I was totally neglected
at another club where I had
been a member for several
years. I could not be happier
here. People know your name;
the staff are genuinely friendly
and service orientated; the
facilities are immaculate
and training is a joy! To
top it all off, I’ve lost
weight!
